One of the best parts of being located in the heart of a capital city is the proximity to great things to do, see and eat. And Palms City Resort, with it's location in the Darwin Central Business District is within a two-minute walk of 12 restaurants. Here's a look at the ones we think are the Top 7 within a 2-minute walk from the resort for our guests to enjoy.
The Hotel Darwin
Our closest neighbour and a favourite of our guests due to the ability to charge-back to your Palms City Resort room, Hotel Darwin has a broad menu at lunch and dinner, 7 days a week. And no pub would be complete without a daily special... and those watching their budget won't be disappointed. A highlight is always Monday's Pork Ribs special for just $17 with your choice of chips or salad. We'll add here that they are delicious and super-value! There's steaks, wraps, salads, some vegetarian options and a big range of drinks to match with it. The staff are more than happy to help you match a wine with your meal to help make it a perfect combination.
Char at Admiralty House
Possibly the most-awarded restaurant in Darwin, Char's specialty is steak. But don't let that limit your imagination. There's seafood, chicken and vegetarian option on this stunning menu. And while the Dry season is when this gem of The Esplanade shines brightest, during the warmer, wetter months, the restaurant features a gorgeous glass conservatory set-up that keeps the heat out and the air conditioning in, so you can dine in comfort all-year-round.
The Deck Bar
A trendy spot opposite the Hotel Darwin, The Deck Bar has excellent outdoor seating and a smaller indoor area for the wetter months. The menu features great lunch specials, and a range of tacos. We have tried the pulled pork and vegetarian ones and both are great! Match your meal with one of the range of tap beers or imported bottled beers for a complete lunch.
Go Sushi Grand Central
Open for lunch and dinner, this is Darwin's premium sushi train-style restaurant. Pick from what's on the train or order from the menu. Specialties include the Chicken Karaage, Salmon and Avocado rolls and a range of sashimi including salmon, kingfish, mahi-mahi and tuna. Go Sushi has a range of local and imported sodas along with Kirin and Asahi beer to really immerse yourself in the Japanese feel.
Right next door to Go Sushi is the chain steakhouse, Outback Jack's. It's a fun, fast and tasty choice for travellers who love it for it's big menu of steak, chicken and seafood mains, creative appetisers and a full kid's menu that s bound to delight the little ones. Bookings are rarely required, but it may be a good idea on a Friday or Saturday night to ask our reception to book you a table in case there's a large party in.
A long-time local coffee house that recently moved right next door to the Deck Bar now boasts a big 100-seat dining room with plenty of room to move. It's very popular at lunch with the office-worker crowd, but is also open Wednesday to Saturday evening for dinner with a delightful menu of eastern favourites from many Asian cuisines. Rendezvous likes to boast about having the best Malaysian laksa in town and it certainly is very popular in a big variety of meat, seafood and vegetable options
Speaker's Corner Cafe at Parliament House
In the big, grand, white building across the road from our resort you'll find both the Northern Territory Parliament and Speaker's Corner Cafe. The food here is provided by a long-time favourite caterer, Karen Sheldon, who is known for feeding big numbers of people with food that feels like it's been hand-prepared with great care. Because it has been! We love it here. It's a great spot for alfresco dining in the Dry and has plenty of space inside during the Wet. Open for Breakfast and Lunch only, Monday to Friday.
We hope you enjoy dining at these great spots. And if you are particularly fussy about your dining, don't worry, there's another 30 places to dine within just another 3 minute's walk!
